What is Singing Bowl Vibrational Therapy?

We already use sound therapy in our lives. Music eases tension and stress, and relates to our happiness and pain. We play noises of running water and white noise to help us meditate and sleep. Singing Bowls have been used as healing tools for over 2500 years. They can be tuned to different vibrations (aka pitches) and made of different materials, whether metal or quartz crystal, and they sing when a felt-tipped mallet is struck onto or run around the edge of the bowl. Just as different parts of the physical body has their own vibrations and receptive natures to the vibration of each singing bowl, the same can be said about the subtle body, which contains energetic centers called "chakras." The conditions of our chakras indicate our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual states. Additionally, we can direct energy to each chakra in several ways using sound and vibration, including Singing Bowl Vibrational Therapy. Head to our Sound Therapy page for a better understanding on the connection between sound, vibration and the human body.

How would an experience with Singing Bowls differ from other healing modalities?

Many are familiar with mesmerizing Sound Baths in group meditation classes. However, the experience of having a one-on-one session with Singing Bowls at The Healing Heart means having the ability to customize your Singing Bowl experience to your personal needs. Singing Bowl Vibrational Therapy uses music, sound and vibration at varying frequencies to manage imbalances in the mind and body. It is also known to reduce anxiety and depression, manage stress, alleviate pain, promote an overall sense of well-being and increase energy. Vibrations and energies from the Singing Bowls emanate throughout the body, relaxing muscles, relieving specific areas of tension and heightening awareness. As each bowl has a different pitch, or vibration, each bowl will be paired with different body parts and chakras. Singing Bowl Vibrational Therapy clients report seeing colors and kaleidoscopic patterns, out-of-body experiences, restful sleep, feeling vibrations along the spine and throughout the body, hearing from spirits or deceased, total relaxation and feeling warm energy. Brain-wave frequencies are often affected as well, as Singing Bowls can facilitate the brain's transition into a Theta state. In this state we experience REM sleep and mental disengagement that often comes with a flow of creative ideas.

Singing Bowl Vibrational Therapy can be categorized as a mind-body intervention alternative therapy, offering meditational guidance and vibrational tuning with instruments powerful enough to vibrate throughout and disengage the body and mind. Other types of healing modalities utilize biofield therapy, bioelectromagnetic therapy, alternative medical systems, body-based methods and biology based therapy.
Other Mind-Body Intervention options available at The Healing Heart: Guided Meditation, Tuning Fork Vibration Therapy

What are typical outcomes of Singing Bowl Vibrational Therapy sessions?

As compared to pre-meditation, results of our Singing Bowl Vibrational Therapy sessions very from person to person. Our clients tend to leave their sessions feeling significantly less negativity in the form of tension, anger, anxiety, fatigue, and sadness. Due to the awakening of senses and relaxation of mind, people often leave feeling relaxed but more productive, invigorated, clear-headed and decisive. One outstanding result of our Singing Bowl Vibrational Therapy sessions is the state of joy that clients experience -- our goal is to help you experience that on a regular basis. The immediate results of vibrational therapy are profoundly rewarding. However, the full spectrum of results cannot be actualized until about a few weeks afterwards.

How can you make the most of your Singing Bowl Vibrational Therapy sessions?

  • Think of specific areas of tension (physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally) that you would like us to focus on before the session begins.
  • Come in open-minded and have faith that sometimes results can turn out better than you originally hoped.
  • Openly communicate with your practitioner about your intentions for your session.
  • Be prepared to drink plenty of water afterwards, as the vibrations from the Singing Bowls can prompt self-healing mechanisms in the body.
